The LS Opportunity Fund (LSOFX) presented by Long Short Advisors offers a fundamental long/short equity strategy in a mutual fund format. Investors are given the opportunity to capitalize on both long and short investing with daily liquidity. A growth oriented investment, LSOFX seeks capital appreciation through above-market returns with reduced volatility.
Strategy Overview
Long Short Advisors, LLC (LSA, the “Advisor”) launched the LS Opportunity Fund (LSOFX, the “Fund”) to offer access to Independence Capital Asset Partners’ (ICAP, the “Sub-Advisor”) long/short equity strategy in a 1940 Act mutual fund structure. While the Fund was established in 2010, the investment team at ICAP has been operating a traditional hedge fund partnership with a similar investment objective since 2004.
- ICAP is a Denver-based long/short equity manager with approximately $450 million in assets under management. A significant portion of that capital is internal funds invested alongside their clients.
- Jim Hillary, ICAP's founder, has over 20 years of industry experience and was formerly the founding partner and portfolio manager for Marsico Capital Management.
- ICAP incorporates the skills and expertise of seven investment and seven operations professionals.
- Through extensive research, implementation of risk controls, diversification, and limited use of leverage, the Fund seeks to preserve capital while delivering above-market returns and managing volatility.

Investment in shares of a Long/Short equity fund is more volatile and risky than some other forms of investments. Since a Long/Short equity fund has both a long and a short portfolio, an investment in the Fund will involve risks associated with twice the number of investment decisions made for a typical stock fund. These types of funds typically have a high portfolio turnover that could increase transaction costs and cause short-term capital gains to be realized.
Diversification does not ensure a profit or guarantee against loss.
